Shaping the Future with Linden Surfboards by Sebastian Williams June 2010

Posted in Surf Boards | 1 comment

Gary Linden shaped me a new 5’0″ board. Shown in this video are some of the first sessions I had trying it out. Gary is a master shaper and craftsman. He makes the best agave boards in the world. He shapes big wave boards for some of the best big wave surfers in the world, like Mark Healey. He is an expert balsa board maker. His tow boards are amazing. The boards he shapes for everyday surfers are great. And now he is hand shaping the best small boards in the world for young surfers like me. I just turned 10, and everyday I surf better because I surf boards shaped by Gary Linden. Thank you Gary!!

It spans over 20 miles long, but just over three miles wide. Quito´s downtown is a patchwork of colors and odd architectural themes. Modern office towers, hotels and banks are present among lesser apartments and houses. The city is divided into two main sections–New Town (which I´m staying in) and Old Town. I´m staying in a relative palace for /night. It´s in the Spanish colonial style. It has tile, I think adobe walls, and a nice wooden staircase. I´m on the third floor in the matrimonial sweet and I have hot water and cable tv. The family who runs the hostal is very friendly and they cook a nice breakfast of eggs and coffee. They are always washing my towels. Quite modern. This is a bad ****ogy, but the area I´m staying in reminds me of a crumbling, Mission Beach, San Diego. Except I´m at over 9000 ft. and there is no beach. The weather is breezy and balmy. There is a surf shop nearby. Quirky clothing stores, bars, and cafes. The style is drastically different from Peru and Bolivia. It´sa more Westernized city like Santiago. Business is more economically linked to North America. In case you didn´t know before, the currency is the US dollar. The
